Congratulations, Laurelwood Community!
Yesterday, Tom Torlakson, State Superintendent announced the 2012 California Distinguished School honorees. Laurelwood has been named as one of those schools. This honor is given to schools that have implemented rigorous innovative programs to close the achievement gap. It is exciting to be surrounded by an entire community of people who are committed to their children’s academic excellence. Congratulations, to everyone!
S.A.I.L. Summer Enrichment Opportunity
If you are looking for a creative and academic summer program that will prepare your child for next year, then come “SAIL” with us!
Last summer, Evergreen School District created a program that is both academic and imaginative called the Summer Academy of Innovative Learning (S.A.I.L.). S.A.I.L. is geared toward elementary school aged children. Our curriculum supports the Evergreen District’s key standards and offers a preview of your child’s upcoming grade level concepts in math, reading, and writing.
In addition, your child will enjoy participating in the many enrichment classes that are available. Instrumental music lessons, comic book making, stop-animation, film making, robotics, art, hands on science, and performing arts will provide a memorable summer for your child.
All classes will be taught by credentialed, highly qualified, Evergreen School District teachers. The program runs June 18 - July 27, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. There will be optional childcare before and after the regular program hours. Space is limited so don't delay!

School Choice Transfer Requests
Monday, April 16 - Thursday, May 10, 2012
If you are a resident of the Evergreen School District but wish for your child to attend an Evergreen school other than your home school, you must complete a School Choice Transfer Request form. “School Choice” placements are dependent on space availability and are offered on a lottery system. Forms will be available at your neighborhood school and at the Evergreen School District office at 3188 Quimby Road after March 1, 2012. Completed requests will be accepted at the District Office during the request window: Monday, April 16 through Thursday, May 10, 2012. Requests received after May 10, 2012 will not be included in the lottery. These requests will be put on a waiting list and placed if possible.

Membership dues are $10.00 per adult member for the year. Envelopes were sent home this week. Please complete and return your membership form to the Laurelwood office. Our goal is 100% participation. The primary (K-3) and upper grade (4-6) classes with the highest participation will win a treat.
